ACRODANCE

Gymnastics and Jazz dance all in one! Students will learn elements of gymnastics such as cartwheels, round-offs, handstands, bridges, back walk overs and much more. In combination with Jazz dance technique, Acro is flexibility and endurance training at its finest. The high degree of discipline and concentration required for acrobatics carries over to many aspects of a student’s life, including academics and other athletic performances.

A highly disciplined stage art based on centuries-old tradition of movement. Ballet develops a sense rhythm and appreciation of music. It helps to coordinate mind and body, improve poor posture and poise and promote self confidence. The basis for all forms of dance, this class will focus on technique training and barre work. The structured discipline of Ballet will help improve all aspects of a dancer’s craft.

Song and dance! Students will experience collaboration and rehearsal as an ensemble as they develop the skills and techniques required to perform a specific musical theatre piece.

Developed during the mid-twentieth century, contemp has since grown to become a dominant genre with strong popularity in North America and Europe. Although originally informed by classical, modern, and jazz styles, it has come to incorporate elements from many different disciplines. Due to its technical similarities, it is often perceived to be closely related to modern dance and ballet.

Age is only a number! Offering dance fitness for all, these classes are intended for individuals wishing to pursue health and wellness. Everyone is welcome, no experience necessary.

A fun-filled class wherein students explore the traditional and national dances of Scotland. Highland teaches self-discipline, confidence, and motivation, making it one of the best training grounds for success. An ancient form of dance that requires both stamina and strength, Highland remains extremely popular throughout the world.

Originating from Hispanic and African American cultures during the Hip Hop era of the 1960s, this dance form incorporates a blend of contemporary funk and street style, including gliding, popping, locking or breaking. Students will learn Hip Hop technique, which includes fast, sharp action that travels through the body in a robotic looking alternation of move and freeze. Fun for all ages, Hip Hop is an energetic and rewarding workout.

Derived from Ballet technique, Jazz is a dramatic and energetic form of dance meant to improve your sense of rhythm, flexibility and interpretation of modern music. This form of dance is beneficial for jumps and turns. Many instructors have different stylistic interpretations of Jazz, often creating their own original pieces. Through Jazz, students strengthen their muscles, improve flexibility and become confident in the use of their bodies.

Lyrical is a relatively new form of dance that fuses Contemporary, Jazz and Ballet. Dancers will learn how to express emotion and interpret the significance of lyrics through flowing, controlled movements. Upper body positions are generally different from a traditional ballet style, body angles unfamiliar to jazz or ballet technique. Constantly evolving, Lyrical can be performed with flexed or pointed feet, and relies heavily on the use of soft contraction and release of diaphragm, head, shoulder, hip rotation, off centre turns and layouts.

Modern dance was developed as a reaction against the rigid technique of Ballet, using the bodies natural lines and energy, allowing for a greater range of movement. Danced to any style of music, Modern is often united with other dance forms to create new styles, and push the boundries of movement. Most commonly performed in bare feet, students will learn controlled falls and recovery, tension and release, and interesting interplays of body, weight and gravity.

Excalibur offers a fun and safe environment where students of all ages are encouraged to grow, create, and reach their full potential!

45 minute classes for our youngest dancers, from 18 to 35 months of age. My Grown Up & Me offers a pre-introduction to dance, intended to ease your child into a more traditional classroom setting. Involvement requires a parent/guardian to play an integral role: Taking part in class, providing comfort and modelling participation for their little one. These lessons will introduce valuable skills such as listening, taking turns, and following directions, encouraging children to develop both individually and socially in a fun, creative environment.

Tap was created by combining elements of African drumming and dancing with the techniques of European Clog and Step dancing. Percussive footwork distinguishes Tap from all other forms of dance. Students will learn rhythm, coordination and self-awareness through technical tap steps and fun, lively choreography.
