Frequently Asked Questions

Our season begins the week of Tuesday, September 8th, 2026.

If you have not already taken the time to read these, it is recommended that you do so.

1773 Lyon St. South.

Our facility consists of six studios (classrooms) under one roof. Each class is held in a specific dance space. Example: Studio A or Studio F. Don’t worry! Though the facility can be difficult to navigate at first, Excalibur staff are happy to answer questions and offer directions.

Due to limited space and parking, please be aware of our drop-and-go policy (top of page 3). It is important that everyone feel comfortable on the first day and we will do our best to make that happen! Studio staff will be on hand to help. If you require assistance, please do not hesitate to ask.

Further information is available below in the WHERE TO PARK AT THE STUDIO FAQ, as well as in the PROTOCOLS & POLICIES tab.

It’s no secret. Parking at the studio can be frustrating. Our parking lots are small and the street is often packed with vehicles from the college. Other businesses on Lyon St. are very protective of their assigned parking spots and they will not hesitate to have someone towed. We would hate to see that happen!

The most important rule: RESPECT OUR NEIGHBOURS. If they ask you to move, please do so. We have to coexist with the businesses around us. We are all in this together.

With regard to drop-and-go, once you leave the building, please do not remain in the parking lot unless absolutely necessary. We have far more clientele than parking spots. We must work together to provide easy, safe access to the facility. Please be considerate of other dance families, especially during high traffic transition periods.

The space in front of a business is private property. They have the right to remove you at any time, even when they are closed! Only their patience and goodwill prevents you from being towed. Do not sneak into a spot for “just a minute” (unless you have permission). Respect and comply with all neighbouring employees. Reports of Excalibur clientele disrespecting our neighbours will be addressed and taken seriously.

  • Canuck Mechanical closes at 4:30pm on weekdays. Monday to Friday, there is only 90 minutes of overlap between our business hours but even that can be troublesome! Thankfully, Canuck hopes to cooperate and share our respective parking lots. They are fine with Excalibur clientele parking in their spots (temporarily) with one notable exception: Do NOT abandon your car in a non-space and block their loading area (the side alley). Canuck has several large trucks and they must be free to come and go at all times, their business depends on it. As mentioned, make it quick. Please avoid occupying their spaces for any significant length of time. Canuck is closed on Saturday. Note that we occasionally see their trucks arriving during off-hours — never block access to the side loading area, even on the weekend. If a Canuck employee asks you to move, regardless of the day and time, please do so.
  • PG Surg-Med is open until 5pm on weekdays and their lot becomes available once they close. Their clients are often elderly and have mobility issues, they may require room to load and unload wheelchairs, powered scooters, and other equipment. Resist the urge to use their parking lot during business hours (even if it appears empty). PLEASE NOTE: Surg-Med is CLOSED on Saturday! Excalibur clientele are welcome to use the front lot on weekends … but on weekdays until 5pm: Respect their employees, respect their space.
  • B&F Auto Service, which is located across the street from Surg-Med, is quite friendly toward studio patrons. Still, do NOT park in their space during the work week. They are very busy and your vehicle may become trapped once they lock the gate.

There is limited street parking — be aware of the bus stops and signage, be sure to park legally. Please note the small parking lot at the rear of the building.

Above all, please do NOT park in front of neighbouring businesses during their hours of operation.

Parking on the street is limited. However, on Saturday, as there are no classes at the college, expect to find plenty of additional street parking (especially on 18th avenue).

Please be aware, we do have a small parking lot (and a rear studio entrance) off Nicholson St. Try to avoid parking in front of the large bay door on the left as we do share the lot with a separate business. They are not often on site during dance hours but they do require access on occasion. This is an ideal place to drop off/pick up students and a great way to avoid the congestion on Lyon St.

We apologize in advance for any inconvenience that the parking situation may cause. We do our best to keep you informed and aware but it ultimately falls on each dance family to respect our neighbours, to both comply and cooperate with their signage and employees.

Above all else: Stay safe. There are often young students on foot, especially on Saturday, so please drive (and park) with caution.

Now that you’ve found a spot, consider how best to enter and exit the Excalibur facility (SEE THE FOLLOWING FAQ – HOW TO BEST ENTER AND EXIT THE STUDIO).

There is both a front and rear entrance to the building. Knowing this, consider how best to enter and exit the facility. When entering, we ask that you please remove your outdoor footwear and place it on the shelves and racks provided (especially in the winter months). Thank you in advance!

The Excalibur facility offers multiple access points. Please consider the following options when entering and exiting:

  • If you attend class in studios B or F, the lobby entrance off Lyon St. is recommended. This is the middle door of the three available from the front parking lot.
  • If you attend class in studio E, there is an entrance from the front parking lot directly into your classroom. This is the far left door off Lyon St. Use this entry/exit to avoid all congestion in the lobby. Note that this door is generally locked but your instructor will open it before and after classes during busy transition periods. Otherwise, simply use the front lobby entrance as detailed above.
  • If you attend class in studios C or D, the rear entrance off Nicholson St. is a good entry and exit for students who are comfortable within the studio. Please be aware, this hallway is narrow compared to the front lobby and there is no seating or waiting area. Space is limited and remaining here for any period of time may disrupt the flow of foot traffic. Therefore, this option should only be used by dancers who do NOT require the presence or assistance of a parent/guardian.
  • If you attend a class in studio A, both the front and rear entrances are viable options, whichever is most convenient. Again, please be aware of the space limitations when entering from the Nicholson St. parking lot, as detailed above. If your student requires the assitance of an adult, the front Lyon St. entrance is recommended.
  • If you attend class in studios A, C or D and require the presence of a parent/guardian upon arrival, please use the Lyon St. front lobby entrance (middle door). While this will create additional crowding in the lobby and parking lot, the space is ideal for assisting young dancers. Exiting through the rear door off Nicholson St. is still a useful option.
  • *** There is only one entrance to (and exit from) the front lobby area. On busier days, the lobby door off Lyon St. may become a major bottleneck. Please place your footwear on the provided racks! If the entryway floor is cluttered with shoes and boots, it becomes potentially unsafe.
  • If you wish to visit the office or Dance Shoppe, the front office entrance (the far right door off Lyon St.) is a good alternative during busy periods as it bypasses all lobby-related congestion.

The studio can be hectic and crowded during transition periods, especially on Saturday. While you are not required to use any specific entrance or exit, please consider your options and choose the one best suited to your situation.

If you have not already done so, prepare yourself for the often difficult parking situation at the studio (SEE PARKING FAQ).

We ask that all students bring a full water bottle to class.

If refills are needed, there is a filtered water bottle filling station available in the change room common area.
